A Two-fer Tuesday Question

It's almost 10pm in SWMO and I have a little Classic Rock radio playing on Pandora, a little bit of bourbon, and am contemplating and assessing tonight's Reading the Bible as a Storybook group gettogether/small group/class.
It was good -- at least from my perspective.

I am really pleased at how the group is participating in the discussion and feeling free to share their tough questions and perspectives on how we reflect or share love to the world around us. I kind of liked tonight's format -- tell the story, give a little background, let them tell me what it means to them.
The old evangelist in me sometimes still feels compelled to somehow draw a line from every Old Testament story to Jesus, even when it doesn't really make sense to do so. Tonight's line of questions and comments did come around to Jesus and was very organic and natural. It was kinda cool.

So let me ask you what I asked them:
What do you think happened to the other thief on the cross?
I'm just curious about your theology on that. No criticism or correction coming from me since I don't really know for certain, but I'm wondering what others think and why.
Anybody care to share?

Healthy Perk

If you google "health benefits of volunteering" you will see several articles that explore both the physical and mental benefits of volunteering. I've found an additional perk of serving at the shelter -- I walk a lot.
In spite of spending much of the night sitting on my ever widening ass, I am easily hitting 10,000 steps on the days that I am there. It's weird because it mostly happens over the course of a 12 hour shift and it never really feels like I'm doing that much. I know that the bulk of steps happens early while people are checking in and getting snacks,  drinks, and settled in for the night, and again in the morning when they are checking out and we are cleaning up. Because my step counter works on a midnight to midnight timeline, I don't always hit 10,000 steps on the first day of working overnight, but I still manage plenty of walking.

I'm not expecting to hit that today.

Two-fer Tuesday--Election Day evening thoughts

It's Tuesday evening and polls on the east coast are still open for a couple of hours. As I said this morning -- today has been pretty much like any other day. I've been busy enough that I haven't checked any news sources, nor have I spent much time on social media. In the few moments that I've scrolled through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter I have been encouraged by the relatively calm encouragement that we will go on tomorrow with calm encouragement.

While there is a certainty that we all want our side to win, there also seems to be a confidence that things will be okay no matter the outcome of the election. The losing parties will continue to fight the injustices they see and begin to form plans for midterm elections in '22. The winners will layout their plans for the new legislature in 2021 and how to work with or oppose the White House strategies.

I'm feeling a reserved, but calm energy. We will see if that changes throughout the night.
Sleep well, my friends. The sun is still planning on rising in the morning.
And there will still be work to do.
