For most of my life, sleep has come easily.
I think that relaxation and sleep is as much a skill as it is a naturally occurring event. I think that much of the sleeplessness that plagues our world is caused by poor diet habits, too much stress and worry, and an inability to relax our body and turn off our mind.
I had no caffeine late in the day, nor did I have any alcohol. (Yes, alcohol can rob you of good sleep!) Dinner was early enough and very good, and had no real sweets or anything that might inhibit good sleep.
I did exercise pretty late and that can impact sleep, but I think I had plenty of time to wind down before bed.
So...
I guess it comes down to letting the struggles of life creep in and the abnormal inability to shut off the mind.
One of the advantages of retirement is not having to be anywhere in the morning. It is easier to just get up and do something (knowing that I can sleep later), than it is to struggle to go to sleep.
So I've been up for a couple of hours, watching old TV shows, scanning the internet and now writing at Out of My Hat.
So...
I'm wondering...
What is it that keep you awake at night?
And how do you overcome occasional (or chronic) insomnia?
Heck! It's almost 5am!
I might just put on some coffee and stay up, now. I can always sleep later. I'm pretty sure that there is no danger of me not getting enough sleep.
Have a great weekend!

John, my occasional difficulties with sleeping seem to be by-products of upsetting days or troubled times. Some aspects of the future are scary.
ReplyDeleteSome aspects of the future are scary, indeed, Angel. I hope that you rest easy and sleep well in spite of that!
DeleteLike you said, you can sleep anytime. My normal cycle is from 2 to 10. Last night we watched some Netflix until 3. Then I checked the computer. Next thing I knew it was 5. It's 12:30 now. I'm up early.
