That is not the case. WE have a choice. While it is not as obvious as "Do you choose to go to heaven or go to hell?" it is still a pretty simple question. "Do you choose to worship and obey your Creator or do you choose to live a life in rebellion against Him?"

I would like to think that sinners would instantly repent when they see Him, but I believe that the attitudes of arrogance, selfishness and rebellion would still be the attitudes of our heart--whether in this life or afterward. If we have lived our life rejecting God, we will continue to reject Him in death.

God has made heaven available to each of us. The Bible tells us that the penalty for sinning against God is death. This is the second death referred to in Revelation chapter 20. Jesus paid that price for us and tells us that "No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

The Bible teaches that you can know that you have a secure home in heaven.

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:9-13

You can receive this gift of grace; this gift of Salvation by a simple confession of your faith in Jesus. You could pray a simple prayer like this:

God, I know that I have sinned and offended you. I know that Jesus died to pay for my sin and that He was raised from the dead. Today, I want to turn away from my sin and live for you. Please come into my life right now, Lord Jesus. Help me to live an obedient life and to follow you. Amen

If anybody reading this has accepted this teaching from the Bible as true and prayed to trust Jesus, please let me know. I think you're the real deal. I do enjoy reading your blog. The thing I always wonder about is that if this God is such a forgiving god (and this is what I always hear), how then will we get to hell? If he is so magnificent, wouldn't the "sinners" instantly repent when they meet him? Or don't they even get a chance to meet him at least once?Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03542715899155247984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31636548.post-24109840807990614482008-11-10T22:39:00.000-06:002008-11-10T22:39:00.000-06:00Mike, Yeah I know that it's a good marketing strat...Mike, Yeah I know that it's a good marketing strategy for Dr. Hemphill. What makes it nice is that I was all set to pay for it.

Pat,
The only thing that I can say about speaking in tongues is that I don't understand the gift. I'm not willing to discount it simply because I don't understand it--there are lots of things about my God that I don't understand. I do believe that the gift is often misused according to the Bible, but even that is based on a limited understanding of the power and working of the Holy Spirit.John A Hillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07777330742400065045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31636548.post-24310701601401495282008-11-10T19:41:00.000-06:002008-11-10T19:41:00.000-06:00My, my, my Mr. Hill. A Southern Baptist evangalist!

What would all the nuns and priests think that taught you and me?

My big question for you is what do you think about the gift of tongues? Is it a gift that people have today? How about that question for an open forum regarding our beliefs? I look forward to your response.

Pat S.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31636548.post-71408217761939758272008-11-10T11:00:00.000-06:002008-11-10T11:00:00.000-06:00"Nice, huh?"Not picking on him or you but, I think..."Nice, huh?"

Not picking on him or you but, I think this guy knows a good marketing method when he sees one. And it's working. (I thought you were going to tell us about YOUR book)

Also, I don't know if you've noticed or not but a lot of bloggers aren't blogging very much right now. I think the election burned them out. They need to recharge.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00017192454403363349noreply@blogger.com
